Mechanical Designer Job Description
As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a crucial role in providing mechanical information and design expertise for product manufacturing. Your responsibilities include generating approval drawings for clients, providing bills of material and component drawings for purchasing and manufacturing, and ensuring adherence to relevant ISO Quality procedures. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Mechanical Designer Job Responsibilities:

  • Convert customer needs into precise product designs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to gather input on potential designs.
  • Provide timely mechanical information to shop floor employees.
  • Generate customer approval drawings and bills of material.
  • Conduct stress and thermal calculations on designs.
  • Integrate quality and reliability into the design process.
  • Develop inspection and test plans, convey parameters through drawings.
  • Implement Automated Design Techniques using SOLIDWORKS automation.
  • Design for manufacturability, conduct peer reviews.
  • Decide on part locations, determine structural details.
  • Obtain clarification of design requirements from Engineering Manager.
  • Utilize Excel/SolidWorks for bill of material entry.
  • Perform weekly reviews of on-time performance and capacity metrics.
  • Capacity to produce 1-2 Power Transformer designs per month, or 4 PA designs per month or 5-6 Transformer Rectifier designs per month.
  • Ensure a limit of no more than 2 errors in bills of materials per month.

Mechanical Designer Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a mechanical designer.
  • Good understanding of metal fabrication methods and welding techniques.
  • Concise and clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, and AutoCAD.
  • College education with a minimum in mechanical design technology.
  • Post-hiring training requirements include SOLIDWORKS automation and technique development, as well as learning and understanding production processes and procedures.
