Product Development Designer
Position Summary:
The Product Development Designer is a creative and innovative thinker. They will be responsible for assisting in the development and design of all component parts & assemblies for the product line. This involves market research, problem solving, the building of prototypes and producing detailed manufacturing drawings. They will work alongside the product development manager and our staff engineers to create new and improved products.
Position Qualifications:
Education & Experience

  • 5 years experience in design, manufacturing and technical trades is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with machining and/or welding and fabrication- asset.
  • Manufacturing and practical work experience – asset
  • Experience with FEA Simulation – asset
  • Completion of a post-secondary program in engineering design, drafting or in a related technical field or equivalent work experience– required.
  • Knowledge of drafting practices, tolerances, welding symbols and fabrication procedures – preferred


  • Competency in SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD – asset
  • Understanding of part design, assemblies, and tolerances.
  • Attention to detail in the creation of drawings.
  • Self-starter with excellent time management.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite


  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Interact in a team environment as part of larger projects

Responsibilities & Competencies:

  • Able to design new components and assemblies and create the required 3D models & drawings with attention to detail.
  • Willing to develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of our products and quality standards.
  • Assist the engineering team with problem resolutions of manufacturing and in field challenges.
  • Problem solve and establish root cause.
  • Understand manufacturing processes and requirements.
  • Possess organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Research market data & engineering criteria and work with company dealers and install teams to determine product requirements.
  • Design efficient and competitively priced products.
  • Co-ordinate projects with other engineering and design staff. Be a team player.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Make revisions to existing models and drawings.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering analysis, related documents & calculations.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with field & manufacturing personnel with respect.
  • Schedule and lead meetings to discuss and review projects and designs.
  • Follows company standards for welding symbols and fabrication procedures.
  • Willing to continually learn and develop new skills through internal and external training.
  • Motivated, dependable, and accountable to meet multiple project timelines.
  • Exercises good judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the leader.
